The department of Human Movement Sciences performs research covering a broad spectrum of fundamental and applied work in human movement. The research is multidisciplinary; we combine physiology, psychology, mathematics and (bio) mechanics, and have an integrative and translational approach. Our research is mainly experimental, and focuses on the movement of man in relation to his surroundings and to the musculoskeletal system. This is to examine both the normal and the pathological functioning. In addition to the fundamental research we do research that focuses on the application of the knowledge we obtained, with the aim of optimizing mobility in for example sport and rehabilitation. Our research is largely funded by parties outside the university, such as NWO, STW, EU, and charities.
